Sail from Sotogrande: the sea, steps from the marina
An elegant marina, a red sailboat and the light of the Strait of Gibraltar. Your day at sea starts next to the Real Club Marítimo.
You’re going to love Sotogrande
Sotogrande is the quiet, elegant corner of the Costa del Sol: a marina lined with white houses, golf courses among cork oaks, polo fields and a long, unhurried beach. It sits at the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, in the Bay of Gibraltar, with the Rock on one side and, on clear days, the mountains of Morocco on the horizon.
That is exactly what makes it a magical place to sail. The Strait of Gibraltar is one of the best places in Europe to see wild dolphins, and the evening light over the bay turns every sunset sail into something special. From the marina you are out on the water in minutes.

The 5 best reasons to visit Sotogrande
- 1
Wild dolphins in the StraitCommon, striped and bottlenose dolphins live in the Strait of Gibraltar all year round, and sightings are frequent on boat trips from the marina.
- 2
Two continents in one viewThe Rock of Gibraltar and the coast of Africa face each other across about 14 km of water. On clear days Morocco’s Rif mountains are visible from the boat.
- 3
Golf and polo at world levelValderrama hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup, and Sotogrande’s polo fields draw international players every summer.
- 4
A calm, refined atmosphereFar from the crowds of other resorts: a marina, a promenade, terraces and long beaches without high-rise buildings.
- 5
Mild climate and easy accessAround 300 sunny days a year, with Málaga, Gibraltar and Jerez airports within reach, and Gibraltar only 25 minutes away.

When to go to Sotogrande
Sotogrande enjoys a mild climate nearly all year. The Atlantic keeps the sea cooler than elsewhere on the Costa del Sol, and the levante (east wind) is the main thing to watch for boat trips.
High season
July and August
Hot and sunny, with 28–32 °C and the warmest sea of the year (around 20–22 °C). Polo season and the busiest weeks on the coast.
€€€Hotel rates reach their peak, and the best terraces and apartments book out early.
Shoulder season
April to June and September to October
Pleasant 20–27 °C, long days and golden sunsets. The best months for dolphins and for sailing in comfortable weather.
€€Rates are lower than in summer and there are fewer people: the best balance of price and weather.
Low season
November to March
Mild but changeable, 14–18 °C by day, with some rainy days. Dolphins are still in the Strait, and clear days give superb views of Africa.
€The cheapest months for accommodation, with a very quiet marina.
Our pick: May, June and September for warm weather, calm seas and fair prices. For dolphins, spring to autumn is the best time, and sunsets are at their longest in June and July.
