Algarve: your private yacht leaves from Vilamoura Marina
Golden cliffs, caves you can only reach by sea and crystal-clear water. Pick your route and let the crew take care of the rest.
You’re going to love the Algarve
The Algarve is Portugal’s southern coast at its best: golden cliffs carved by the Atlantic into arches, sea caves and hidden beaches, with fishing villages, pine-covered hills and around 300 days of sun a year. Vilamoura, in the centre of the coast, has one of the largest marinas in the country and is the starting point for some of the most spectacular boat trips in Europe.
Many of the Algarve’s best sights, such as the Benagil cave, the Marinha beach and the rock formations of Albufeira, are only fully appreciated from the sea. A short sail takes you under the cliffs, through caves and into coves where there is no road.

The 5 best reasons to visit the Algarve

- 3
Sunshine almost all yearMild winters, dry summers and about 300 days of sun, making the Algarve a destination for most of the year.
- 4
Fresh fish and Portuguese cookingGrilled sardines, cataplana de marisco, octopus and local wines, from simple beach grills to fine-dining restaurants.
- 5

What to do in the Algarve
- Stroll around Vilamoura marinaA lively marina with terraces, restaurants and shops, with yachts moored at the quay and a long promenade.
- Visit Praia da FalésiaA long beach below red, white and orange cliffs, close to Vilamoura and one of the best-known in Portugal.
- See Ponta da Piedade, in LagosSpectacular rock stacks and sea caves; the walkways at the top give some of the best views of the coast.
- Explore Albufeira old townA lively old town above the sea, with narrow streets, viewpoints and plenty of restaurants.
- Discover the Ria FormosaA natural park of lagoons and islands near Faro and Olhão, perfect for birdwatching and quiet beaches.

When to go to the Algarve
The Algarve has a mild climate all year. Remember that the Atlantic stays cooler than the Mediterranean: the sea is about 17–19 °C in winter and rarely goes above 22–23 °C in summer.
High season
June to September
Hot and dry, 27–32 °C, with long days and the warmest sea of the year. Beaches and marinas are at their busiest.
€€€Hotel and villa rates peak in July and August; book well in advance.
Shoulder season
April to May and October
Warm and sunny, 20–25 °C, ideal for walking, golf and boat trips, with fewer people and a lower chance of strong sun.
€€Lower rates than in summer and plenty of availability: the best value.
Low season
November to March
Mild, 14–17 °C by day, with some rain and many bright days. Quiet beaches, good for walks and golf; the sea is too cold for most swimmers.
€The cheapest period, though some seasonal businesses close.
Our pick: May, June and September for warm weather, calmer seas and lower prices than in July and August. Boat trips run most of the year, but wind and swell can cancel days in winter.
How to get to the Algarve
Vilamoura sits in the middle of the coast, just off the A22 motorway.
✈️
By plane
Faro airport (FAO) is the main gateway, around 25 km and 20–25 minutes by car from Vilamoura. It has direct flights from many European cities.
🚗
By car
Take the A22 (Via do Infante) along the coast; Vilamoura has several car parks near the marina. A car is the easiest way to explore the Algarve.
🚌
By bus and train
Buses link Faro airport and the coastal towns with Vilamoura; trains run to Faro, Loulé and Albufeira (Guia station). Check current timetables.

To the boat
Our trips leave from the Marina de Vilamoura, Gate A1. The meeting point and a map are below.

Boat trips and attractions in the Algarve
The Algarve’s most famous sights are better by boat. The Benagil cave, hidden beaches and sea arches are far easier to reach and far more impressive from the water, and a trip from Vilamoura combines caves, swimming stops and a sunset over the Atlantic.
At the end of this guide you will find all our experiences from the Algarve, with live availability and secure online payment.
