Full moon rising over the sea

A full moon turns the Strait of Gibraltar silver, and from the deck of a sailboat it is one of the most memorable things you can see from Sotogrande. Here is every full moon from Mon, 26 Oct 2026 until the end of 2027, with the exact time in Spain, so you can plan a night on the water.

Full moons from October 2026 to December 2027

Times are Spanish local time (CET in winter, CEST in summer) and were calculated astronomically, rounded to the minute. When the exact moment falls in the early hours, the evening before is already almost full and is just as good for sailing.

What kind of full moon is each one?

  • Regular full moon: the Moon is directly opposite the Sun and fully lit, bright and visible all night.
  • Harvest Moon: the full moon closest to the autumn equinox. In 2027 it falls on Thu, 16 Sept 2027.
  • Hunter’s Moon: the one that follows the Harvest Moon; Mon, 26 Oct 2026 in 2026 and Fri, 15 Oct 2027 in 2027.
  • Blue Moon: a second full moon in the same calendar month. None occurs between October 2026 and December 2027.
  • Moon names such as Wolf, Snow or Strawberry are traditional northern-hemisphere names. They add character, not a different kind of moon.

Tips for a full-moon sail from Sotogrande

  • Choose the night of the full moon or the one just before: the Moon rises around sunset and lights the whole sail.
  • Bring a warm layer even in summer; it is cooler on the water after dark.
  • Check the weather: clouds, not the Moon, decide the view.
  • Our full-moon night sail runs on selected dates, so check the calendar for the one you want.

A different kind of astronomical event in 2027

The big astronomical date of 2027 is not a full moon at all: the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 happens at New Moon, and Sotogrande lies inside the path of totality. We cover it on a dedicated site: totalitysotogrande.com.

Last calculated on 11 October 2026.
